Platte and Boardman Rivers July 7-8

This is a weekend of daytrips and base camping.

Plan on camping Friday night at Veterans Memorial State Forest Campground near Honor, MI on Friday night July 6.

Saturday July 7:  Platte River from the Campground to Deadstream Road; shuttle leaves from the campground at 9:00 am.

Sunday July 8:  Boardman River from Brown Bridge Dam to Keystone Pond; shuttle leaves from the campground at 9:00 am.

These are twisty turny rivers that will present no problem to the experienced paddler but could challenge a novice. PFD usage is mandatory on all Club trips.

Shiawassee River, Henderson Park to Ditch Road, June 16

We’ll meet at Henderson Park north of Owosso at 9:00 a.m., run shuttle, and paddle about 9 miles down to the old Parshallburg Mill Dam site off Ditch Road. This is an easy route with no portages or obstacles to avoid, although the old mill pond at the end of the trip will be slow going due to duckweed growth. There will be a lunch stop along the way. More details when you RSVP. PFDs must be worn while on the water. If you haven’t signed a trip waiver for the 2012 season, I’ll have forms available at the put-in. Please RSVP, loretta [at] loapc [dot] org.

Pigeon and Sturgeon Rivers June 23-24

Paddle the Pigeon and Sturgeon Rivers on June 23 and 24. Plan on meeting up on Friday night at Haakwood State Forest Campground near Wolverine for camping for the weekend. We will leave to run shuttle from the campground at 9:00 am on Saturday morning to run the Pigeon River from M-68 to Mullet Lake. We will leave to run shuttle at 9:00 am on Sunday morning to run the Sturgeon River from Wolverine to the 2nd White Road Bridge.

If you have never paddled these rivers before they are narrow and twisty and require a nimble and manueverable boat, that you may need to portage around fallen trees.  If you are new to paddling I would not recommend this level of difficulty.  Wearing a life jacket is mandatory on all Club trips.
