Easter Weekend Whitewater Trip

Cumberland Plateau Paddling, Eastern Tennessee, Easter Weekend (April 5-8)
Join us for some early season whitewater paddling in the Cumberland River watershed. On Easter Weekend (April 5-8) we’ll be leaving the Lansing Area on Thursday night after work in quest of whitewater, and returning on Sunday night. The rivers we plan to paddle are in the Obed/Emory National Scenic River area near Crossville, TN, and the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River National Recreation Area near Oneida, TN. Depending on weather, water levels, and the skill of the group, we could paddle anything from Class II to Class IV whitewater, so you should have some whitewater skills and experience. If you’ve got some experience, come along and we’ll try to tune the trip to your skill level.
Some of the possible rivers to paddle are:
· Clear Creek, Jett to Nemo, Class II-IV http://americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1732/
· Obed River, Devil’s Breakfast Table to Nemo, Class II-IV http://americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1775/
· Daddy’s Creek, Antioch to Devil’s Breakfast Table, Class III-IV http://americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1740/
· Emory Canyon, Class II-III http://americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2655/
· Big South Fork of the Cumberland, Burnt Mill Bridge to Leatherwood Ford, Class III-IV http://americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/1719/
Participants are expected to provide all of their own gear which includes but is not limited to: a whitewater boat with adequate flotation, life jacket, helmet, paddle, spray skirt for kayaks, wet or dry suit for the cold water we’ll encounter, and river safety knowledge. The water will be cold and the air may be cold too, so cold temperature preparedness is essential.
Our plan is to find a cheap cabin rental with some means to cook and clean up, but plain old car camping and some restaurant meals are also possible. We’ll work out lodging logistics when the trip coalesces.
