Manistee River Part 3

I’ll be organizing Part 3 of our trip down the Manistee River on Friday June 17 through Sunday June 19.  We’ll camp Friday and Saturday nights at Seaton Creek National Forest Campground at Hodenpyle Dam.  Saturday we’ll run shuttle and paddle from Baxter Bridge back to the campground, and on Sunday we’ll paddle from the campground down to Red Bridge.  You will only need to bring food, water and safety gear in your boat.

Wisconsin Whitewater

If you ever wanted to go a little further in pursuit of quality whitewater, now is your chance.  On Memorial Day Weekend (May 27-30) we値l be leaving the Lansing Area on Friday night after work in quest of whitewater, and returning on Monday night. The trip is going to Wisconsin, where a decent weather forecast and good water levels look promising.  We値l be seeking out Class II-III whitewater, so you should have some whitewater skills and experience.

Participants are expected to provide all of their own gear which includes but is not limited to: a whitewater boat with adequate flotation, life jacket, helmet, paddle, spray skirt for kayaks, wet or dry suit for the cold water we値l encounter, and river safety knowledge.  The water will be cold and the air may be cold too, so cold temperature preparedness is essential.

We値l be car-camping on this trip, and eating some meals in camp and some meals in restaurants.  I’ll post more details about lodging and meeting places in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, check out the following AW links for the rivers:

The trip will go wherever the water is running, perhaps to Wisconsin, perhaps to the Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, or North Carolina.  We’ll be seeking out Class II-III whitewater, so you should have some whitewater skills and experience.

Participants are expected to provide all of their own gear which includes but is not limited to: a whitewater boat with adequate flotation, life jacket, helmet, paddle, spray skirt for kayaks, wet or dry suit for the cold water we’ll encounter, and river safety knowledge.  The water will be cold and the air may be cold too, so cold temperature preparedness is essential.
