Red Cedar River Clearing Event Saturday, October 23

We will be coordinating with the Harris Nature Center and Meridian Township Parks and Recreation a river clearing on the Red Cedar River on Saturday, October 23, 2010.

Meet at 9:00 am at the Nature Center, 3998 Van Atta Rd, Okemos, MI 48864-3131 (517) 349-3866 and park in the overflow parking lot south of the main parking lot.

We will divide into two teams, one working from Grand River Blvd. down to the Nature Center, and another from the Nature Center down to Ferguson Park.

Please dress for getting in the river and maybe a little dirty.  Most of the work involves cutting logjams apart with chainsaws and removing the wood from the river.  Chainsaws will only be allowed to be operated by their owners.

Bring a lunch and water for the day.  If there are any questions or responses, please contact me at

  1. The river is currently flowing at 55 cfs which makes for decent access to the blockages. Weather for Saturday is predicted to be in the 50’s and partly sunny. Can’t ask for better than those in October!

  2. I fired up the chain saw Sunday afternoon to be sure it was running. Both it and the weather look good for Saturday.

  3. I have to put a new chain on before the weekend, otherwise I’m ready.

  4. Hey, I saw a bunch of the GREAT work that you guys did! Hooray! It was wonderful seeing that huge dam get a route cut thru it. Plus all those snags down below it are gone now. Wow! Thanks a million! –JP
