Grand River Expedition for the Club

Well, folks, it is getting close to the start of Grand River Expedition 2010.  It certainly is different this decade, compared to 1990 and 2000, but in many ways I think it is better.  Due to virtually no major sponsorship or funding, everyone has come together IN THEIR OWN WAY, and made this event a reality.

Dividing the river up into three sections has provided regional ownership that has made this possible.  The Lansing Oar and Paddle Club, under the exemplary direction of Pat Harrington, has been the clear choice to host the Middle Grand, but even so it is still an amalgamy of organizations, volunteers and dedicated individuals.

I will be contributing as rivermaster for the four days of Saturday, July 17 until Tuesday, July 20.  I plan to take some notes and post on this blog after next Tuesday so you can get an idea of what transpired.  The event going through downtown Lansing this coming weekend should be amazing.

If you don’t have anything going on  and you wish you had thought of joining us, it still isn’t too late to throw that boat on the family vehicle and head out for either Saturday or Sunday.  Both days start early at 7:00 am so if you show up at 10:00 you can take a guess where WE are.

Saturday, Eaton Rapids Quality Dairy parking lot at 7:00 am

Sunday, Grand River Park at 7:00 am

See you on the river,

Jay Hanks, LOAPC President

  3. Great job, Jay. I paddled the 12 trip. I was raised in GR and was not aware of the great job they have done in developing the Water Front. I was so in awe of the lovely side of GR. Hope to paddle with you in the future.
