We will be coordinating a whitewater paddling trip to Slippery Rock Creek in western Pennsylvania the weekend of May 22-23. Although water levels have been fluctuating on the low side this spring, we are hopeful that normal rainfall will still provide a runnable level by the time the weekend arrives. Otherwise, we may make a last-minute destination change.
The plan is to camp at Breakneck Campground, 1757 Cheeseman Road, Portersville, PA 16051 on Friday night, May 21, and Saturday night, May 22. Their phone number is (724) 368-3405.
The Slippery Rock Creek is a Class II-III run and very popular with the Pittsburgh area paddler, as well as paddlers from Ohio and Michigan. It is an excellent training river for advanced beginnners or intermediates, and is also a lot of fun for even advanced paddlers.
If you have all of the necessary equipment, such as a boat, paddle, helmet, wetsuit, and skill, then join us for this weekend playing in the river! (A roll is not necessary but they taste great with butter).
