Family Canoe Trip August 29-30

I am hosting my annual family canoe trip on the Platte River in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park on the weekend of August 29-30.  I have a group camping site (G002) reserved in my name in the campground for Friday night, August 28 and Saturday night, August 29.  It is a walk-in site from your vehicle so you may want to bring a wagon to haul your stuff.

I plan on running shuttle from the campground at 9:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. launch near the Veteran’s Memorial State Forest Campground at the US-31 bridge on Saturday with the takeout on Indian Hill Road downstream from Honor.  Bring a lunch for the river, appropriate clothing for the weather, and your PFD.

Sunday we will put in at the boat launch just outside the campground and paddle down to Lake Michigan and the beach.

If you need to rent a canoe or kayak you are free to make your own arrangements at:

  • Riverside Canoe (231) 325-5622
  • The Trading Post (231) 325-2202

I hope you can make it there!  Summer is running out!
