15th Annual Christmas Eve Morning Float

The 15th Annual Christmas Eve Morning Float will take place on Wednesday, December 24, 2008.  Meet at 10:00 a.m. at Kruger Landing at Aurelius Road and the Red Cedar River ready to go.  If the river is not frozen from Ferguson Park down to Kruger Landing then we will shuttle upstream and float back.  If it is frozen we will launch from Kruger Landing and paddle upstream as far as we can go and float back since that section stays open.  I will scout the river on my way to the 10:00 a.m. rendezvous so I will know what the river conditions are by then.

All of the normal warnings about cold weather paddling apply.  Refer to the Turkey Float blog for more details.  Sooner or later everyone falls in during the winter paddling months (twice now for me) so appropriate preparation is your only protection.  Never under rate the conditions or over rate your abilities.

  1. As of today 12/21 the river is flowing approximately 300 cfs and ice is forming upstream, so based on the current weather forecast it looks like we will start and end at Kruger Landing.
